Coaches

Thank you for Stepping Up to Coach CCSA Soccer!

Our coaches are the heart of the CCSA experience. Every volunteer who steps up to lead a team makes a direct difference in a child's season — and we make sure you have everything you need to succeed.

CCSA youth soccer runs entirely on the generosity of parent and community volunteers. No prior coaching experience is required — just a willingness to show up, have fun, and help kids learn to love the game. We'll take care of the rest.

Coaching structure: two coaches per team

Every CCSA team is required to have two coaches. This ensures no single volunteer is left managing a group of kids on their own, and that there's always coverage if one coach has a scheduling conflict. Teams may choose one of the following arrangements:

Option A: Head coach + assistant coach

One coach serves as the primary lead, with a second coach providing support during practices and games.

Option B: Co-head coaches

Two coaches share equal responsibility for leading the team throughout the season.

Two Coaches Per Team Are Required

Teams that do not have two registered coaches prior to the start of the season may not be able to participate. If you're having trouble finding a second coach, contact the CCSA league coordinator — we're happy to help.

How to sign up

All coaching sign-ups are handled through the Crossbar platform. Once you've created your Crossbar account, look for coaching volunteer opportunities in the app and register directly from there. You'll be able to indicate your preferred team, age group, and coaching role. Sign up early — spots fill quickly as families register their players.

Background check

The safety of our players is our top priority. All CCSA coaches are required to complete a background check before working with any team. Instructions for completing the background check will be provided through Crossbar after you sign up. This is a one-time step that must be cleared before the season begins, so please don't wait until the last minute.

Pre-season coaches meeting

Before the first practice, all CCSA coaches are expected to attend a pre-season coaches meeting hosted by the league. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow coaches, go over league expectations and age group guidelines, ask questions, and pick up your coaching kit. Date, time, and location will be communicated through Crossbar ahead of the season.

What you'll receive

Ball bag: A full ball bag stocked with a game ball and ready for practices and game days.

Whistle: A coach's whistle to help manage drills, transitions, and game flow.

Coaches manual: An age-appropriate guide with drills, activities, and coaching tips to use throughout the season.

The coaches manual is designed with your age group in mind — whether you're working with our youngest players just learning the basics or older kids ready for more structured play. It gives you a week-by-week framework so you always have a plan walking onto the field, even if you've never coached before.
